We had another excellent event on Friday night. Our thanks to our feature Sean Patrick Mulroy! We’re a little backed up on score reporting, so here are the results from our last two slams. Many congratulations to all of the competitors. Both nights.

At our first-ever Iron Poet Slam, there was dancing, blindfolds, and of course–whipped cream. Poets wrote their first round poems on subjects submitted by the audience, including “first kiss,” “immigration,” “why ID me,” and “new born farm animals.” Check out these pictures from the night.

Gabe Moses (left), the eventual winner of the Iron Poet Slam, does an interpretive dance to a poem by Tristian (right) in the second round of the slam.

Malika, the runner up, performs her final poem standing in a bucket of whipped cream, with a mound of whipped cream in her right hand. Fittingly, the poem was about overeating.
Thanks to everyone who came out, including the Atlanta WordWorks Youth Poetry Slam, who gave us a great feature! You can find more of them here. You can also hear more of their amazing poems at the Alliance Theater on July 7.
Our next slam, on July 13, will include an open mic and our first-ever Sock Puppet Slam! Don’t have time to make a sock puppet? We’ll have materials on site so you can create your own sock puppet, for a donation. See you there!
