We’ll have a regular open mic and our annual Women of the World slam with feature poet Joshua J. Ballard. Poets, musicians, and improv welcome on the open mic (5 minutes per person). Sign up at the door for the open mic or slam. A poetry slam is a competitive poetry reading. Cover: $5. Doors open at 7:30; starts at 8:00. Bring your art and join us!
JOSHUA BALLARD is a two-time Grand Slam Poetry Champion of New Jersey’s Loser Slam, a three time poet laureate nominee of Asbury Park, New Jersey, and is on his fourth national tour to promote his first published book, “i keep going,” as well as his remastered and re-released 2011 spoken word album, “How Strange It Is When We Are Young.
TONIGHT’S SLAM IS OPEN TO WOMEN ONLY. Because the slam is a qualifier to select Art Amok!’s representative for a national event, only women who have competed at Art Amok! since September 2012 are allowed to slam. In February, we’ll return to our regular structure, and the slams will be open to everyone, regardless of gender or experience. The winner of this slam will have the chance to represent Art Amok! at the national Women of the World Poetry Slam in Minneapolis in March.
