Second Friday Open Mic: December 14
This Friday, we’ll be running amok all over In Tune Music Studio.We’ll have our regular open mic, followed by a slam. We’ll also have a special feature all the way from Minnesota, Cynthia French.
CYNTHIA FRENCH (Also Known As Dottie Hazard) is an award winning spoken word artist from Minneapolis. She received an MFA in Writing from Hamline University, is a 2-time recipient of the VERVE Grant for Spoken Word, and a past participant in Intermedia Arts emerging writer’s program. Cynthia served as the Slam Master for SlamMN! for 6 years, has been a part of 9 national poetry slam teams, and has represented Minnesota at 2 Individual World Poetry Slam and 4 Women of the World Poetry Slam Competitions.She’s also been a blocker on wheels for the Dagger Dolls, a team in MN that goes to rollergirl championships, kinda like what we have with National Poetry Slam. Yeah, Cynthia is BADASS! Check out her poem “1986″:
Poets, musicians, and improv welcome on the open mic (5 minutes per person). Sign up at the door for the open mic or slam. A poetry slam is a competitive poetry reading; poets are judged by 5 randomly chosen audience members. If you’ve never slammed at Art Amok! before, you can check out the “About Us” page for more info on how to prepare for our slams. Or, just show up with two of your own original poems (no more than 3 minutes each). Cover: $5. Doors open at 7:30; starts at 8:00.
